The Seychelles are filled with natural wonders both above and below the sea. We arrange guided expeditions with specialists on a variety of eco-topics. Track a family of cheerful dolphins while looking out for whales along the 19th century migration path where they still pass today. Search for turtle nests on isolated beaches and watch the babies scurry for safety in the waves. Find a fluffy booby chick guarded by a parent who feeds it daily till it’s strong enough to fly.
Scientific Research Charters
Our experience with scientific expeditions goes back to research on the Coelacanth in the Comoros by Hans Fricke on our former vessel MV Indian Ocean Explorer. Today MY Basilisk returns to her roots as a former research vessel for a Canadian university. With her wide deck, practical layout, 4-ton crane, USCG SAFEBoat tender, diving capacity for 8 and a 6’000 nm range, she is available for special charters that research marine and land species in remote locations.
Fishing Charters
Bonefish, Giant Trevally, Grouper, Snapper, Tuna and Wahoo inhabit the clear waters and sandy white expanses of the Inner Islands and the Amirantes. This is one of the greatest regions in the world for salt-water fishing from the flats or from a tender. Spend days out with experienced guides and a picnic lunch. Then return in the evening for a cooling drink, a hearty meal and a round of tales about that great fish that didn’t get away … with photos as proof!
A Day Onboard
A pale pink glow melts the lavender edge of night as dawn breaks and the sun slowly rises. Wavelets formed by the changing tides are gilded with liquid gold. Sea birds break the quiet, calling to one another as they fly out over the water in search of early morning breakfast. Something hungry chases a small school of fish that leap into a bluing sky, escaped to live yet another gorgeous day. We head out for adventure and discovery with sights, sounds, smells and sensations few are privileged to witness. A short journey over smooth seas brings us in view of an island crowned with palms and ringed by a pristine white beach. Across the turquoise lagoon, a rainbow arcs low over a bosque of casuarina trees. On the program is a day of diving and snorkeling with a brief land visit in the afternoon.
Below the surface, fierce clownfish defend their anemone castle set on a snow-white sand field while yellow-fin surgeons sweep through a forest of fan coral nearby. A platoon of raccoon butterflies parades by a company of blue-streaked fusiliers who hurry off in the opposite direction. Out from a fissure peeks a leopard moray eel while a trio of surreptitious young black-tips head towards shore, curious about the snorkelers in the lagoon. As the divers surface and the snorkelers wait to board the Zodiac, a dolphin splashes towards the shore, scattering the sharks with his playful gamboling.
After a light lunch, the tender heads to shore for an exploration. A large grey heron harvesting crabs and mollusks along the waterline lifts off with a squawk at the sound of the Honda engines. He doesn’t seem interested in the tiny tree snails with their foamy trails. Vestiges of former settlements remain in the form of lavender periwinkles, a medicinal plant now growing wild, and the lumbering bulk of a great land tortoise. Back to the boat for cocktails in a pastel sunset followed by a 3-course dinner featuring Creole specialties and fish freshly caught by the crew. Tales of the day’s adventures go round as a full moon rises, silvering the edges of the clouds. What about a night swim?
